Eastside Speed Increase Project Update

The eastside coverage areas include the 285 corridor, the hills above Old Santa Fe Trail, Canoncito, Eldorado, Lamy, and a number of small neighborhoods near I-25. Most of those areas are already enjoying near doubling of internet speeds since last spring. This was made possible by installing the first stages of the new westside distribution point, which doubled our overall bulk internet input, and which positively affected our entire network.

We also upgraded a number of access points on the eastside over the summer to help solidify those speed increases, including new radios and/or new power supplies at Vail, RanchodeBosque, and New Moon Overlook access points.

Remaining Work

There are a few remaining neighborhoods on the east side that are still waiting for a complete equipment overhaul to enable the final stages of higher speeds in their locations.

The main remaining project is to install the final six new high-speed radios in some reamaining east side areas. Specifically, we are upgrading access point radios at Vail, RidgeRoad, SpiritRidge, and JicarillaRidge. These will be full duplex, FCC licensed, 18 GHz links which greatly increases capacity and improves reliability. We are working on these radio installs now but expect that project to extend into late fall and early winter since it is a huge project requiring completely re-architecting our Internet network serving those areas.
