Member Profile: Nicholas Petrović and Apogee Spirulina
Most of our LCWA members live in rural Santa Fe County and I am consistently amazed by the very interesting people who have chosen to live here—there is something about this area that attracts creative and independent thinkers. This month I will briefly profile Nicholas Petrović, an LCWA member who in 2013 started Apogee Spirulina with greenhouse space at Santa Fe Community College.
Your New Smartphone or Tablet might Kill your Network for a Day
Are you getting a new smartphone, tablet, or laptop over the holidays? Well, if you have a cloud account like iCloud, OneDrive, Google Drive, or Dropbox, and lots of data, you may kill your internet speed for about a day after you activate your device. That’s because the new device may immediately try to sync all your cloud data onto the new device.

More Reasons to Activate Your LCWA Portal
We’ve been gently urging (pushing) members to activate their LCWA portals account, mainly because with you paying by credit card on the portal, it helps save us the processing fees we pay when handling paper checks. And so, switching to credit card payments helps keep everyone’s monthly service rates lower. For that reason, we are grateful that our portal membership is growing very fast! But note, there are other reasons that activating your portal account benefits you.
New Response Tree on the 1-800 Support Number

December 10 Holiday Party
Our annual LCWA Holiday Party will be held on December 10 at our monthly board meeting, 7 PM. Bring some snacks and good cheer, it will be fun! It will also be a good chance to meet the new board members and for you to air any suggestions you have for the LCWA organization. So again, please come at 7 PM Monday December 10 to the NCGR building located at 2935 Rodeo Park Dr E, Santa Fe. Park to the left in the back and you’ll see some lights on in the ground floor (main) conference room—that’s us!

I have a request. My wife and I have purchased property just outside of Cerrillos where we will be building our new home. In the meantime we are living in a rental home in Santa Fe.
Once we’ve built our new home we plan on joining the LWCA and using the system. In the meantime we’re looking for internet access here in Santa Fe and we thought you folks might be able to recommend a good provider that we can use until we start using the LWCA system.
Any recommendations or referrals would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks very much.
John, thanks for your note and good luck with your new home project!
The answer to your question about temporary service from LCWA in your rental home depends on where that rental is located. Our service area is only south of town in Santa Fe County-either down the Turquoise Trail on the west side or along the 285 corridor on the east side. We do not currently offer service anywhere in the city of Santa Fe.
John, I did the same thing, lived in Santa Fe while building a house in Cerrillos. Comcast has good coverage in most of the populated areas of Santa Fe, and they will do month to month—but you have to sign up for a cable service package to get it. Normally you have to use (and pay rental for) their cable modem, and they will try to sell you wifi rental to. While they do have ways to arrange using your own equipment, if i were you, I’d rent the cable modem from them (useless on LCWA) and buy your own WiFi box (you can reuse that on LCWA). Hope that helps. Where in Cerrillos are you building by the way? Have you confirmed LCWA can reach your location?
