The LCWA President’s Letter, October 2018
In this month’s President’s Letter, I provide tips on setting up credit card payment, WiFi passwords, and volunteer roles. Read on and enjoy the articles!
Dana Simmons,
President LCWA
Please Use Online Credit Card Payments
We announced last month that you can now pay by credit card and set up automatic recurring payments. But this month I’d like to personally encourage you to do that. The reason is that you doing that greatly lowers our LCWA billing costs: it costs a lot more for us to process checks and to chase down late payers. And, of course, reducing costs helps keep your Internet rates low. So, help us out, and help yourself, and sign up for credit card payments.

DMCA and WiFi Passwords
I bet you have never heard of DMCA (The Digital Millennium Copyright Act). Actually you probably have. It’s the formal law behind the idea that it is illegal to download copyrighted material from the Internet. What you may not know is there are mechanisms in the Internet where such downloads can be detected, and the offender punished. It’s happened a number of times throughout our membership. And in some cases, LCWA has had to cut the member’s service off. That’s because the ISP (that’s us—LCWA) is required by law to do that if the incidents are not resolved.
Reminder of Open Volunteer Positions
You know that LCWA is run mostly by volunteers, right? We’d like you to volunteer. Contact me, Dana Simmons (president@lcwireless.net), if you’d like to volunteer in some way, and I’ll find something for you that meets your skills and schedule. With that in mind, there are lots of one-off and ongoing things you can do. Here is a list of current ongoing open volunteer roles:
