Another Major Infrastructure Upgrade
LCWA just made another major infrastructure upgrade. We installed and tuned a high-capacity radio to upgrade our Santa Fe main internet feed to our mountain-top distribution radio cluster. The latter is the point from which internet for our entire 400 square-mile coverage gets spread.
Result? We nearly doubled the capacity of that radio hop.
This was a huge effort taking months of technical planning, FCC licensing, and then three days of installation time. By the way, this work last weekend is what caused the short internet slowdown we announced on our 800 number and Facebook page.
The upgrade was needed because the old links there were nearly reaching capacity as our internet delivery keeps growing. It was needed because we are serving more and more members, and existing members are demanding more and more internet—we are keeping up! Essentially, this work prevented future internet slowdowns. And it was not cheap—it required at least $12,000 in equipment alone.
Thanks go to all the staff and volunteers who helped on this project.
