Many members don’t realize that LCWA has a Network Status recording on our 1-800 support line. Using it, you can listen to hear if there is an internet outage in your area.

These days with our new operations focus, that status recording is updated pretty much every day, even if the network status has been good for days or weeks.

So if your internet is not working, the first thing to do is listen to that status message to hear if there is a regional outage affecting you.

Daily Monitoring

Every day we keep an eye on internal monitoring tools and watch for downed AP’s or groups of offline members. If we detect an outage, we don’t wait for members to call in. Rather after bit of internal confirmation (to avoid false alarms and avoid churning messages) we post the outage on the 800 recording; usually within 30 minutes. By the way, please listen to that status message before leaving your own tech support outage report (on option 2). There is no need for you to report you are down if the status recording clearly states the internet is down in your area. Same with calling and asking about updates. Sorry to say, but if you leave a request for us to call you back and give you an update on a regional outage, we will simply ignore the request—volunteers and staff are usually too busy at that point trying to fix things. Instead, listen to the status recording. We’ll update the status recording if we have updates and feel free to listen to that as often as you need to get those updates.

Also, if you do have an unreported outage at your location, we recommend you wait about 1 hour before reporting your own outage. That’s because we often will detect, diagnose, and fix an outage within that hour, and it saves us all time dealing with recorded messages.

And don’t forget, if your internet is misbehaving but no outage is reported, try cycling the power on your router and radio leaving them both off for 90 seconds before powering them back on. That will often clear up your loss of connection if it’s just at your home. But don’t ever push the reset button on your router, that will erase all your router settings.
