Do Not Push the Reset Button on your Router

As we stated in another article, the best way to get your router working again if it is not accessing the internet is to cycle the power on the router. But do NOT press the Reset button on your router.

Almost every other week this happens with an LCWA member and its very unfortunate.

The Reset button looks different on each router brand, it might be a small pin hole that you must insert a paper clip into, or it might be a miniature but easy-to-push button on the bottom, top, or side of the router. What this button does is reset the router to factory settings, and the problem with that is that factory settings are not correct for the LCWA network. When an LCWA volunteer installs your router, he or she spends a bit of time setting up the router, including entering some very specific configurations that support our network. The most important settings are called the PPPoE settings, and they are unique for each member. By pushing that button, you wipe out those settings, and you will lose contact with the internet.
