A Backup Plan Is Important

We’ve always said that if you have a critical home-based business, job, or other home activity, you should have a backup internet plan in place. And with so many more people currently working and schooling from home due to coronavirus, this advice now applies to more members than ever.

And yet very few people do this, and that’s unfortunate.

When we get a call from someone with a home job or schooling saying “My internet is down and I absolutely need it back up NOW!” we just shake our heads and remind the caller that 1) like all internet providers, we’ve never guaranteed uninterrupted service and 2) we’ve always recommended having back-up internet plans if uninterrupted internet access is critical to you.

All Internet Service Providers Have Outages

Create an Internet Backup Plan

So, if that sort of interruption is unacceptable to you, you should have an internet backup plan in place. Also, keep in mind that most of the “My internet is down” calls we get are not due to interruptions in the LCWA internet feed. Rather, 80 to 90 percent of them result from equipment failures at the member’s house. We don’t own that equipment, you do. And since our volunteers do not make house calls to fix the member’s own problem equipment, you should either have a paid technician identified to come to your home on short notice, or you should be ready to do your own fixes.
