airCube ISP Router

On this page your will find: links, videos, and written documents about the airCube ISP Router. How to get it, how to plug it in, and how to configure it for the LCWA network.

Our New Standard: the airCube ISP

The airCube ISP is the new LCWA standard for home routers—it’s what we recommend our members get if they need a new router. And it’s what we install in nearly all new sites. To learn more about it, and why we have chosen it, go to this link.

How to get an airCube ISP Router

For LCWA members, the best way to get an airCube ISP Router is to write an email to support@lcwireless.net (or give our 1-800 Tech Support line 800-536-6149 a call, option 2) and say you want one. We will provide one to you at our cost which is about $30 plus NM GRT (sales tax), which we will invoice on your next bill. The advantage of having us source it for you is that one of our volunteers will configure the router for your account and for the LCWA network, saving you a lot of effort. You simply have to pick it up and then take it back and plug it into your network.

Or if you want to buy one and configure it yourself, you can find it online at Amazon or at Walmart. But if you do that, be sure to get the ISP model, not the AC model. See the configuration instructions for the airCube ISP below.

Plugging in the airCube

Plugging the airCube ISP into your LCWA network is a little different than other routers because it shares the POE power supply with the LCWA external radio—the power passes through the router to the radio.

Here is a PDF that you can print out that shows you how to plug an airCube router into your LCWA prepared home network.

Alternate Methods for Plugging in an airCube

The above method is how most of you will plug in the airCube. But there are two special cases that require a different plug-in method:

  • If you are an AP host (you have one of our Access Point radios on your roof and you connect directly to it), then use the method shown in this diagram.
  • Or another case is you want to place the airCube away from where the rooftop radio is powered inside your house. For example, maybe the rooftop radio wire comes into a utility closet, and that’s where it plugs into the POE power supply. But you want to have the airCube in your living room to provide a more central Wi-Fi signal. In that case, use the plug-in instructions shown in this diagram.

Configuring the airCube ISP

As stated above, the best way to get the airCube is to pick up one preconfigured by one of our volunteers. But if you want to configure one yourself (or maybe change the configs like the Wi-Fi password), here are some instructions.

First, for experienced router configuration people, here is a link to a 2-page PDF write-up that our volunteers use when they configure a new airCube right out of the box. Do not use these instructions if you got a preconfigured airCube from LCWA. Rather, use the video, next, if you got a preconfigured airCube from LCWA.

Next, here is a more detailed video showing configuration steps, both for a new airCube out of box, and for one already configured for LCWA. Note, for some reason a Google browser when used on a Mac may not show the embedded video below. If not, either download it using the link below, or open this page in Safari.
