Jerry Zollars, Long-Term Volunteer

Profiles of Members and Volunteers

As part of my monthly letter I’ve decided to profile various members and volunteers of our LCWA community—to emphasize the human element of this organization that sometimes gets lost under its technology focus. My longtime friend and outgoing LCWA treasurer, Jerry Zollars, is a great example.

Jerry joined LCWA in 2004, one year after LCWA was founded. He was member number 70 (we are now at 560 members). Within a year he volunteered to be Treasurer and has held that role for 13 years. He is retiring from that role in August (that position is still open!).

Caring for a Cause

Jerry is a perfect example of an energized and dedicated volunteer. He volunteered because “I saw it was a great group of people who cared for a cause: to provide Internet service to those that could not get it otherwise”.

Living in Santa Fe since 1967, Jerry may as well be a native. He arrived here that year to take a job at St. John’s College becoming their Director of Admissions and refused to leave even after that job ended. Like many in Santa Fe, he became dedicated to the community and did everything he could to stay here. One of those things was to start an Internet-based company in the late 80s called Access to Information. Prior to that, Jerry worked with a synthetic fuels company. He also worked with NASA to enable technology transfer of NASA inventions to private industry.

The current consensus is that viagra super is a safe drug to induce healthy erection power as well as sexual life.
New Mexico Fan

Like many here, Jerry absolutely loves New Mexico. While working for St. John’s he traveled the state offering scholarships and recruiting locals to go to school there. He discovered that he loved the incredible diversity and magic of New Mexico and has been a dedicated fan ever since. Jerry, who has family in Australia and now in Holland, and has traveled extensively (“I just got back from a week on Lake Como in Italy”), marvels at how Santa Fe has not succumbed to the “Aspenization” of Western US resort towns and of many other resort cities in the world. “None of the major designer brands like Gucci and Coach have taken over the Plaza. Instead, we, as a community, deeply honor our local culture. That’s one reason I have stayed here.”

Would Love to See You Join

I asked Jerry “how can LCWA members get involved in our LCWA organization?” Jerry responded: “Come to one of the Saturday-morning meetings that are posted on Facebook. You don’t have to be technical, there is plenty for everyone to do, just come to the meetings and meet the other extremely friendly members. Once you join it will become like family to you!”

Thank You Jerry!

Let’s thank Jerry for his 13 years of service to the Santa Fe community as a volunteer at LCWA. If you’d like to fill Jerry’s shoes as our Treasurer, or in any other role, please contact me, Dana Simmons (president@lcwireless.net), and I’ll help you make it happen!
